The Maybank Championship represents an evolution in the way international sporting events in the ASEAN region are run and compliments the impact we wish to make as a regional leader and member of the ASEAN community.
With a prize fund of $US 3 million, the Maybank Championship is one of the richest tournaments in the region and will see the reinforcement of the unique ASEAN category.
This enhancement is envisioned as being an important step towards changing the way professional golf is perceived in the region and changing the way the sport is developed at a regional and national level. The inclusion of top players from the region, alongside a field curated to be among the best seen in Asia, elevates the Championship as we begin a new chapter in ASEAN’s professional golf scene.
“The 2018 Maybank Championship is ASEAN’s leading home-grown international golfing experience. As one of the most respected and anticipated co-sanctioned tournaments in the ASEAN region, it provides a valuable platform for established champions and creates opportunities for rising Tour professionals across ASEAN, as well as top Malaysian golfers from the local Tour, to experience true competition with some of the world’s best golfers,” said Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, Group President and CEO of Maybank.
“We are delighted to once again support the ASEAN category in the 2018 Maybank Championship. It is a clear statement of intent from the organisers to develop golf talent within the region and we are looking forward to seeing some exciting action over the course of the week at Saujana Golf & Country Club,” said Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the European Tour.
“Maybank has done an excellent job over the years to create more playing opportunities for players in Asia especially in the ASEAN region. I salute their efforts and vision to grow the game of golf in Malaysia and across the region. Maybank has been great partners to the Asian Tour and we are proud to be associated with the Maybank Championship.” – Josh Burack, Asian Tour Chief Executive Officer.
